Cookie

As many of you already know the worse news a fur parent can get while out of town is that their furbaby needed to be taken to an emergency vet.

We left Cookie in the wonderful care of our great friends Matt and Laurel and everything was going well.  Cookie has had a weird cough for the past few months, but was given the clear at her vet check up in June.  I brought her back because of the cough and they said it was just allergies and gave us meds.  When I still felt the cough was getting worse I said as soon as we are back from our cruise I am going to take her to another vet for a second opinion because I felt it was more than just allergies.

Well, two days into our honeymoon we wake up to a voicemail from Matt and Laurel that Cookie was having some labored breathing and then we have a message from the vet.  She had congestive heart failure and we weren’t sure if she was going to make it.  They kept her in an oxygen cage and were doing the best they could.

I wanted to come home immediately but hurricane Irma wouldn’t let that happen.  So we did our best to enjoy the rest of our honeymoon, all the while more anxious then ever to return home.

Cookie is a fighter and she made it and I cried so hard when we picked her up from the emergency vet.  She is on daily meds now to prolong her life but the very sad news is they believe she has 6-9 months left before she has another congestive heart failure episode and it will be her last…

So we are doing our best to spoil her rotten for her final months.  We are still quite heartbroken over the passing of Hitler Kitty, not sure we are ready to lose another pet.

We have been working on a doggie bucket list as well as a photo a day on Instagram (#spoiledCoookie #acookieaday) and Facebook.  Let us know if you would like a visit with Cookie, have some great bucket list ideas for her, or have some treats you want to spoil her with!
